WAITING FOR THE CORPSE FLOWER TO BLOOM AT THE CHICAGO BOTANIC GARDEN

The words “waiting for” reminds me of that play by Samuel Beckett “Waiting for Godot” where nothing much happens for the whole of the performance. The video which you can watch below is a live stream from the Chicago Botanic Garden of the Corpse Flower Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanum) which is about to bloom. If it has already flowered by the time you read this then you will have to wait for another seven to ten years before it will bloom again. If you are lucky enough to witness the bloom, you will also experience its exquisite perfume described as “a combination of Limburger cheese, garlic, rotting fish, and smelly feet”. So perhaps watching the video will be preferable to visiting the plant in Chicago. Watch the video below to catch up with the action (or lack of it).
