In this video Roger Cook from This Old House walks you through the various plants you want to grow to attract butterflies. The first consideration are the caterpillars which need grasses and leaves such as the spicebush. Butterflies rely on nectar from flowers so it is important to provide blooms throughout the season. Starting with chives, sage and even dandelions in Spring, then milkweed and coneflower cover the summer. Fall flowers include asters to complete the cycle.
